No King but Caesar

Like in the 30s, the natural response for male disciples of Jesus who witnessed a mob of fellow believers lift up a convicted felon (John 19) was to run and hide.
But not the women.
The women followed along with Jesus as he was abused and mistreated.
The women stood witness at the foot of devices that the Empire constructed to humiliate and hurt those whom the Emperor saw as enemies.
The women cleaned up the carnage left by violent power.
And they were the first to see and share the Gospel, the real good news, that evil and death and political power do not win in the end.
Eventually, “the disciples” joined them.

Love anyway
– “Love Anyway,” by Drew Holcomb & Ellie Holcomb1
May we be like the women disciples and find ways to love anyways.
For our family, it has been to welcome a kiddo who entered the foster care system recently. He drew me a picture of himself with his new buddy (me).
With the federal funding freeze to programs that serve the most vulnerable locally and worldwide, perhaps you too can find an organization near or dear to you and support it.
We may not be able to sway the decisions of Emperors, but we can sway the course of Empires, one act of love at a time.
“May we be people of peace, with voices of hope, doing the hard work of love.”
– Dr. Lucretia Carter Berry, Brownicity
